Vascular morbidity, neuropathological markers and the risk of cognitive decline and dementia Lead Investigator: Yuan Ma Institution : Harvard University E-Mail : yuanma@hsph.harvard.edu Proposal ID : 1317 Proposal Description: The goal of this proposal is to examine the mediation role of neuropathological markers in the association of vascular morbidity with dementia. Our secondary aim is to examine whether the above putative mediation pathway is modified by the presence of genetic risk factors. We hypothesize that vascular disease contributes to the risk of dementia by causing cerebral vascular lesions that can be identified through noninvasive brain imaging markers and post-mortem neuropathological markers. The expected findings of this study would offer new and more comprehensive understanding of the role of vascualr factors in the etiology of dementia.
